Blue Angels Second Twin by Andrew Popovich
It all started with me doing research on the Blue Angels car club from Massillon, Ohio my home town. I wanted to compile pictures and info from past members to share with the hot rod community along with the city of Massillon. The club has a great history starting in the early 50's with a GMC 6 cylinder powered dragster and finally ending in the early 70's with a SPE chassis top fuel car. They had many cars over the years including two Twin engine cars. After talking with many of the members they all mentioned that they had heard rumors of there being a Blue Angels car in some lady's garage in a small town outside Massillon named Canal Fulton, but had no idea which car it was and what condition it was in. One of the members sent me to a man who lived in Canal Fulton named Guss Connley who had some pictures of the Blue Angels. My dad and I started talking with him and mentioned the rumors of there being Blue Angel car in his town, he stopped for a second to think and suddenly remembered that his brother in-law was a member of the club and in the late 60's had helped him put a part of a dragster in the rafters of his garage. His brother in-law had since passed away but his wife still lived in the same house down the road. A few weeks later he took me over to her house and sure enough in the rafters of that old garage sat the rear portion ( from the firewall back ) of the Blue Angels second Twin. We worked out a deal and purchased the car.
